If it turns out you do not need the ones you have gathered, you have lost nothing but a little time and effort. If you have too little, on the other hand, you risk delaying your application and, therefore, your benefits.
3. If you have never worked, you will not be completing the Social Security Benefits Application. Instead, complete the Adult Disability Report.
4. If completing the application online, you do not have to complete it all at once. You will be given a confirmation number, which you can use the next time you access the website, should you need to return to it at a later time.
5. Be sure to follow up for any needed documents, forms, or signatures in a timely manner. If you need a report from a doctor, for example, be sure you are prompt in pursuing it. Even if several follow-up phone calls or visits are needed, it is well worth the time if it helps process your application more quickly.
